This week we started the process of look dev and created material quilts.

I am not a material artist like Antonio, so I utilize high quality assets that I can find on Quixel Megascans and the Unreal Marketplace. However, there is an issue with Megascan material's where they don't come with displacement built in. Antonio should me how to fix that by creating a a scalar input and pulling the displacment data from the ARD .exr texture.

I cleaned up the previz and added music. I'm looking forward to planning these shots.

I also started testing the hardware and workflows for Virtual Production. As of now we are looking at CamTrackAR by FXHome. This iPhone app uses the Apple AR Kit to track and export the camera motion into any 3D rendering software, including Unreal Engine.

(these pictures are screengrabs from FXHome.com)

In combination with Nuke Server and Unreal Reader we'll be able to do a real-time composite to line up the shots, more accurately. There are some limitations and issues that we are running into that I am working to smooth out, such as scale(units).

I was also approved for the move.ai beta program. Move.ai is a motion capture software that uses iPhones to capture the physical movement of a performer. Machine learning uses multiple camera angles to interpret the motion and turn it into MoCap data. No need for expensive equipment or black unitards. I plan to be testing that in the next week.
