Week 1 - Concepts and Pitches

We were broken into groups and asked to choose a product that we could create a commercial. The objective was to do this use VFX in anyway we saw fit.


We are Team SHOK(er)Z. Our group specifically is a real-time rendering and virtual production crew.



We chose the product SHOKZ Headphones, bone conduction headphones that transmit sound through your skull directly into your ear.



We've decided to go with a Brutalist inspired enviroment.


And the aesthetic of active motion, throught fighting. Such as shadow boxing or Katas.


We are incorporating audio visualization. Drawing on the inspiration from Chladni waves, and cymatics.


Antonio did a a test and created this texture that creates a Chladni wave and emits particle from it.


This Chladni texture will be animated and seen on the back wall where our fighter is warming up, represented by the white cylinder.


As mentioned, before we will be using virtual production methods. Our primary method will be shooting an actor on green screen, tracking the camera motion and applying that in Unreal Engine.


This will be done with either Nuke or, an app called CamTrackAR, which uses the AR kit in Apple phones to track camera motion, with capturing the motion.


We are also going to be doing Motion Capture as a backup method, using either a Vicon system, or a new method provided by move.ai.



For our story, our fighter is shadow fighting in silence with this Chladni wall vibrating behind them. When the fighter reaches out and touches the wall particles and sound fill the space.

The fighter then puts on the SHOKZ headphones, and continues to shadow fight.




Overall, this will be a very challenging project, but ultra-rewarding once it is complete.
